Aim: How does Grendel illustrate the commercialism of art and beauty through his analyses of the shaper?

Do Now: If the ideas of art were beautiful, that was arts fault, not the shapers. (49).

Responses:

Allen says that Grendel beloved that the universe is pointless. Also staying that art and poetry creates the illusion of a purpose.

Steven stated that it’s common that the art and the artist are often stripped from each other. He added that the idea of man being in charge of their own destiny is disproven by this quote.

Kelly added that in this quote art has in a way it’s own free will. Which gives itself purpose

Shannon says that art and the artist, in this case the shaper, are often separated and how it’s ironic that the shaper is named the shaper.

We then privately wrote down our thoughts on Ms.Fusaro

We then did some analysis of the Sistine Chapel by researching images of it.
We spoke about its beauty and how much work was put into it by Michealangelo.
We were then informed that the painting of the Chapel was initially to pay off michelangelo's father's debt to the pope.
He was then supposed to get paid to finish the chapel, however the pope snubbed him so he painted himself making lewd gestures at the pope because he wasn’t paid at all.

William said that he felt these facts made the chapel cooler because regardless of him being paid it is an awesome achievement to have painted it.

Ms.Fusaro and George replies to that by saying that He was miserable while painting it and they would be extremely upset for not being paid.

Allen tied it all up by saying the art and the reason behind the art are completely separate. He says the art takes its own identity from the process behind it.

We then analyzed this quote about the Cancer zodiac signs and related it back to what we thought about ms.fusaro.

We ended the class by analyzing these imagesand quotes.

Student Reflection:

What did I learn: The biggest lesson I learned is that Art and the Artist can be viewed as independent entities. The process or artist that leads to the painting can completely alter the way you view the art. Which can be related to Grendel because of the shaper. Who ironically is named the Shaper.

How I use what I learned: The way I look at art, music and even people. Almost like a don't judge a book by its cover complex. Whether the audience chooses to look at the past or the process is up to them in my opinion. It’s easy to justify your own decisions then to feel for someone else’s choices.
