Fahrenheit 451 Summer Reading Project

Objective: What happened prior to the beginning of the novel and what would drive humans to make the choices that they do in the text?

Today we are continuing to work in our groups on the summer reading project. For this project we must create a book cover to the prequel of Fahrenheit 451. This cover will illustrate the events that occured which led to humans behaving like they do in Fahrenheit 451. Once the covers are finished we will have to present our project by explaining what we think would happen in the prequel and the decisions that society made in the actual book.

Last class my group decided on our cover idea. We are going to illustrate a suburban town in black and white being shown in a television, while the people looking at this television are pictured in color and which unique characteristics. We think this would represent the want to be more organized, identical, and live a less complicated life as it was shown so well on the television. This dream turned into a reality as we can see in Fahrenheit 451, where everyone is prctically identical and has no need to think about complicated issues.

During this period we were able to finish sketching our illustration and started writing the notes for the presentation this Thursday. Overall, I believe my group was able to create a convincing cover for the prequel of Fahrenheit 451
