Day C

At this current point in time, what specific goal(s) do you have for yourself? Why?

One major goal that I have set for myself to complete before I graduate from high school is to stop myself from procrastinating. A problem that I have had for as long as I can remember is that I am always procrastinating. Whenever a teacher assigns work, the first thing that I check is when it is due. That may seem normal because in order to complete work on time you need to know when it is due. However, whenever I check the due date of an assignment, it is with other intentions. I check it hoping that I can procrastinate whatever the assignment until mere hours before it is due. This is one of my worst habits as it always causes me great stress as due dates for various assignments pile up. The work always gets done before the due dates in the end, but it is the practice of procrastinating all of these assignments that I am trying to change. My goal is to stop procrastinating and complete assignments as soon as possible from when they were assigned.

How do you demonstrate resilience towards achieving this goal? (or these goals?)

I demonstrate resilience towards achieving my goal of stopping my procrastination by trying to complete my assignments as soon as they are assigned. My mentality is that if I complete an assignment right away then I can not possibly procrastinate. Currently with the cycle system that we are using in school, in which we have certain classes on certain days, I try to complete all of my assignments for a certain day on the same day. However, this system also allows me to procrastinate more than I ever have, because it gives me a minimum of a full cycle of procrastination to complete my assignments before they are due. Because of this, I try to finish all of my assignments as they are assigned on that same day so that I can not continue to procrastinate throughout the entire cycle.

How does the world around you affect your perception of this goal? (or these goals?)

The world around me affects my perception of this goal because it is always throwing more work at me. With school work, college applications, and everything else there are many times that I end up procrastinating assignments that I should be doing because I am working on something else. The fact of the matter is that if I am faced with multiple assignments, I will always do the one that seems more interesting, regardless of when they are due. This is a terrible practice because it ends up leaving me with little time to do the work that I deemed the least interesting, meaning that it would take me the most time. Meanwhile, more and more assignments keep piling up making the possibility of procrastination much more enticing. Regardless of the world around me, I need to keep trying to stop my habit of procrastination and complete all of my work in a timely manner.
