Aim: How do we present our creative projects for “Lord of the Flies”?
Today was the presentation day of our “Lord of the Flies” map project. This project would be the end of our Lord of the Flies unit.
Group #1: Guy
Map: This group created their map using candy. The volcano is made with m&m’s and twizzlers were used to portray lava. The beach was made with nerds, and the desert was made with crushed cookies.Their map has different districts such as the waterfall district, Nerd beach, the desert, and the forest.
Writing Portion: Fahad began by introducing himself as King Fahad. He started by introducing his land, Candyland, as a tourist attraction and a very coveted place for a vacation. He started off with “Nerd Beach”. Jake is the lord and guardian of the volcano, which he lives in. Jake describes his days of praying to the gummy bear lord. Nouraldeen is the keeper of the waterfall. The waterfall is there for a place to relax and is used as a freshwater source (lifesaving). Abanob is the king of the desert. Greg, the King of the temple, which can be alluded to the White House, is in charge of managing the money. For example, he charges tax on daily prayings.
My Reflection: Guy’s map was by far my favorite map because it was made out of candy and looked so aesthetically pleasing. I love their use of candy, and how they introduced themselves as lords and kings of their specific area.
Group #2: The Burn Book
Map: Our map was a “Map Selection” page that is also featured in Mario Kart. This map outlines each track that Toad goes through in his adventure.
Writing Portion: I started off by stating who the main character was (Toad), the setting, and the rising action of the plot. Toad falls off Rainbow Road because his glider had a hole. Because of this, he blacked out, and his whole journey starts. Then, Julissa talks about the first map that he lands in which is, Koopa Troopa Beach. At Koopa Troopa Beach, Toad gets chased by the beast and ends up at Yoshi Falls. Here, Clara explains how he gets swept by a current and lands in Block Fort. Meghan talks about how Toad met Toadette, the love interest, in Block Fort. She joins him on his journey to the Twisted Mansion. Here, Toad gets separated from Toadette because he falls off a bridge and into the raging rivers. Laura explained how he ends up at Cheep Cheep Beach, where he realizes that he cares about that race too much. Finally, Daniela ends the story by saying that Toad woke up from his coma, and that he dreamt his whole journey.
My Reflection: Overall, my group was really detailed in describing each of their maps. While presenting, I saw that we relate to the audience really well because a lot of our classmates play Mario Kart. However, we went overtime, and had to have an extra minute.
Group #3: Celsius 233
Map: Their map was made using the app, Minecraft. This island was also split into different aspects, starting off with the island, then the forest, cave, and finally, the volcano.
Writing Portion: Owen starts off by introducing the beach, describing this as a dangerous place; telling us to watch out for mosquitoes that might carry diseases and poisonous snakes. He then goes on to describe this mysterious shack that was once inhabited by a fisherman. Conspiracy theorists stay there for one night and disappear the next. Cesar describes the forest, the least deadly place on the island, with many animals. Cesar says that there are many places to lodge in the forest. The forest also has zip gliding. The cave is described by David, as very dangerous. The cave is inhabited by spiders who claim to be friendly in the daytime. David says that people easily get lost. Samson talks about the volcano, which is called Mountain Pighead.
My Reflection: This group was very entertaining to listen to because their island was so different from other groups. While, Guy’s group advertised their island as the best place to be. Celsius 232 stated that no one gets out of their island alive. I enjoyed their presentation because it fits well with the theme of October, the spooky month. However, the group should have read off the paper less and address the audience better.
