What is it like working from home?

I am a person who needs complete and utter silence and no distractions when I’m studying, and this situation has allowed me to have my ideal educational setting. I do not enjoy study groups or sharing classwork, so I don’t miss much of that from school. I do miss having teacher lectures and a person to oversee that we are doing what we are supposed to, in a physical setting, but other than that, it’s been blissful. I do know that my circle and a lot of people outside of it are fed up with being locked up at home all day long, but I see it as an opportunity to experience the retired life. I’d loved to be retired. If I wanted to speak with my friends, I can text them and video chat.  In fact, we’ve discovered numerous ways of having fun with each other virtually, from sending memes throughout the day to doing Netflix Parties (an app where you watch a movie at the same time with your friends and there’s a chat option for real-time reactions). While I hate why we’re quarantined and I wish that people everybody can stay healthy, I’m trying to keep a positive mind and enjoy the experience, especially since we can’t change what’s going on.

What are you learning about your world/community based on the reactions?

I’m learning that we’re strong. When there’s a common enemy, in this case, a horrific infection, we have the ability and spirit to stand together and find solutions. Sure, there are discrepancies in that certain people see it as a violation of our rights that we are ordered to quarantine and others who see those who leave the house as breaking a vital law, but all in all, we’ve established that there’s a greater problem going on at hand and we need to address it before it’s too late. It takes a village to raise a child and it takes the world to eradicate a virus. We’ll keep working at it, doing our part to help those on the frontlines, and worry about the economy later.

Your own personal feelings on what is happening right now?

I feel that what’s happening with the sick is extremely sad. People lie on their deathbeds alone. Healthcare workers worry about the virus sticking onto their clothing and infecting loved ones at home. Those who live paycheck by paycheck are using meager savings to pay rent for the next month. It’s an incredibly disheartening situation. But everybody should do their part and try to abide to the rules. I think that some people are taking quarantine orders a little too seriously; they refuse to even go to their backyard or take out the trash in fear of catching it. I think going outside for some fresh air is fine and is healthy. Staying cooped up all day is going to one’s sanity go haywire a lot quicker. I also think people who are dwelling in woe and cursing the fact that they can’t go outside and hang out are missing out on a valuable opportunity to find interests and hobbies. Being pessimistic isn’t going to solve your problems, but doing something with your time might make you feel better.
