Robert Grande 4/14/20 Period 2 - Blog #3 (LATE)

Robert Grande - PD 2

Hey! Rob here. So I'm going to use this blog to give my thoughts on this whole situation and how it's affecting me, and my thoughts on the news covering it and what not. Don't get me wrong, I'm liking the Interview with the Vampire, but I'm giving a lot of my thoughts on the book/themes of the book on the Weekly Discussion posts on Google Classroom (which btw, this was a fantastic idea!)

What's it like working from home during this quarantine period? Well it's very tough, of course. The thing with working at home is you're getting such a diminished school experience. Without the in-class time, and without the other thoughts from your peers, it's really difficult to get through lessons and get the same education and the same feeling of being enriched with education. This is especially apparent in this class specifically because SO much of the course relies on us students bouncing ideas and thoughts off of each other. Here's the thing though, we all still read our books and we all still go through the lessons, but it's really just not the same. I would never willingly opt for remote learning if someone gave me the option too, because working with other peers is almost essential to getting the best learning experience you can possibly achieve.

The updates in the world around me are honestly pretty interesting. The virus is sweeping the world by storm, of course. Every single day that goes by, the situation just keeps getting worse. To give specific examples, at first the quarantine was supposed to be over in the middle of April, and now just keeps getting extended to what feels like no end. Our president is currently working on ways to try soft reopens, and the entirety of the government is truly fighting to get us back on track, but the updates we are getting so far is keeping us all quarantined. Some good news is that there are companies working on vaccines and treatments, and there has been some recent news that they are starting to report successful testing with new treatment. I always just keep searching for this good news, because tbh if you turn on any news channel, it's all just "Coronavirus Coronavirus Coronavirus" and they just don't stop talking about it, so I'm just trying to search for the good news/updates regarding the whole thing.

This virus is also really bringing out the worst of everyone. Currently, there are two extremes of people: the people who are being religious about quarantine and following every single guideline absolutely perfectly, and the people who really are not caring at all and putting people at risk. I have been taking drives during quarantine around the Island just to get my mind off of things, and honestly the amount of people I see out and about, not caring at all about the severity of this virus is really astonishing. People are out in close groups, with no masks, and going around neighborhoods. I respect the people who are out and at least wearing masks or only traveling in their car as they head to a store, but the people who are clearly going directly against guidelines almost think they are above the virus, and I'm learning from all of this that some people really just don't care, and it's kind of sad. I just wish we all could bring down this virus together... it's almost like people are only being this ignorant to go against our government. Most other countries are taking down the virus because their governments are keeping an iron fist on the control, and it's absolutely paying off, but I have no clue what's going to happen to our USA if what's going on now is being kept up.

That's all I have to say! Thank you for reading... if you're reading this recently after it's posted, stay home and stay safe; if you're reading this in the future, be grateful that you can go out at will and that your school year (especially if you're a senior) is all well and good.

Peace and love,
Rob Grande
