What is it like working from home?
Although working from home has both advantages and disadvantages, I don’t mind it too much.
I think that an advantage and a disadvantage about working from home is the freedom to do what you
want. Although Mr. Erlenwein provided us with a schedule, students can choose when to do their
assignments. However, with this freedom, it is easy for some students to neglect their assignments with
the many distractions at home that don’t exist at school. I see this at my own home. While I am able to
focus and get my school work done, my sister has found it easy to miss some of her assignments.
Although my teachers have transitioned into remote learning really well and have provided us with
many resources, I don’t think it’s the same as a teacher’s explanation or collaboration with my classmates.
In my opinion, if you keep a routine/schedule, it is much easier to focus on whatever task you have.

What are you learning about your world/community based on the reactions?
I think that in a crisis or panic, the best and worst are brought out of people. Many communities
have come together to take care of the elderly and other vulnerable people. A lot of people have
offered to go out and purchase food and other necessities for those who can’t. Others have donated
money, food, and PPE to hospital staff and those in need. However, despite people trying to be good,
others have not done the same. Almost every store’s stock of paper products, cleaning supplies, food,
and other protective gear have been wiped out due to people buying gross amounts without regard for
others. Recently, people have protested orders from the government to stay home and close
non-essential businesses. I think this is incredibly selfish as hospital staff are already overworked,
under-protected, and struggling to get what they need.
Lastly, I think that this crisis has illustrated the extent to which wealthy people are privileged and
out of touch with the average American. I think that it’s unfair that people who weren’t/aren’t at
high risk for contracting the Corona Virus are able to get tested, while those on the front lines must
wait. Additionally, preaching to people about how easy it is to stay at home when you own a house
worth millions of dollars and an enormous bank account to fall back on when many are losing their
jobs is tone deaf.

Your own personal feelings and thoughts about what is happening right now.
I understand the importance of staying home during this time, however I and the rest of the Class
of 2020 are missing out on a lot of what makes senior year special. Since many schools will not be
open for the rest of the year, seniors are missing out on their senior trips, proms, graduation, and other
fun senior activities. It’s also made deciding where to go to college a little difficult. I know that myself
and many friends and peers had their accepted student days cancelled. Despite many schools providing
many digital resources, students still missed out on getting a feel for the campus and their potential peers.
